I was just a provincial 13-year old kid without any know-how of what's happening in the country when I witnessed in black and white television the people power EDSA Revolution. While I didn't understand much about what's truly happening, what I only understand by that time is that Ninoy's widow is the key to the restoration of democracy into this country.

Now, Tita Cory is leaving us behind but her legacy still remains.

Following below are two songs that will always remind Filipino people the EDSA Revolution.

The song "Handog ng Pilipino sa Mundo" was made in April 1986 to remember the EDSA People Power Revolution on February, the same year. The was composed by Jim Paredes, a member of one of the most famous singing trios in the Philippines, the APO Hiking Society and was sung with other famous Filipino singing Artists. Now, it is one of the most known Filipino Patriotic Songs of all time.

"Handog ng Pilipino sa Mundo"

Composed by Jim Paredes of APO Hiking Society
Sung by Various Artists

'Di na 'ko papayag mawala ka muli.
'Di na 'ko papayag na muli mabawi,
Ating kalayaan kay tagal natin mithi.
'Di na papayagang mabawi muli.

Magkakapit-bisig libo-libong tao.
Kay sarap palang maging Pilipino.
Sama-sama iisa ang adhikain.
Kelan man 'di na paalipin.

Ref:
Handog ng Pilipino sa mundo,
Mapayapang paraang pagbabago.
Katotohanan, kalayaan, katarungan
Ay kayang makamit na walang dahas.
Basta't magkaisa tayong lahat.

Masdan ang nagaganap sa aming bayan.
Nagkasama ng mahirap at mayaman.
Kapit-bisig madre, pari, at sundalo.
Naging Langit itong bahagi ng mundo.

Huwag muling payagang umiral ang dilim.
Tinig ng bawat tao'y bigyan ng pansin.
Magkakapatid lahat sa Panginoon.
Ito'y lagi nating tatandaan.
(repeat refrain two times)

Coda:
Mapayapang paraang pagbabago.
Katotohanan, kalayaan, katarungan.
Ay kayang makamit na walang dahas.
Basta't magkaisa tayong lahat!

Magkaisa

Composed by Tito Sotto & Homer Flores
Sung by Virna Lisa
(Lyrics from here)

Ngayon ganap ang hirap sa mundo
Unawa ang kailangan ng tao
Ang pagmamahal sa kapwa'y ilaan

Isa lang ang ugat ng ating pinagmulan
Tayong lahat ay magkalahi
Sa unos at agos ay huwag padadala

Panahon na ng pagkakaisa
Kahit ito ay hirap at dusa

Magkaisa (may pagasa kang matatanaw)
At magsama (bagong umaga, bagong araw)
Kapit kamay (sa atin Siya'y nagmamahal)
Sa bagong pagasa

Ngayon may pag-asang natatanaw
May bagong araw, bagong umaga
Pagmamahal sa Diyos, isipin mo tuwina

This morning is Tita Cory's funeral parade. Paalam, Tita Cory. The Filipino people will always remember you...

Dodong, so I am older than you by a couple of years? :-). Nalungkot ako kasi wala ako sa Pilipinas when the people paid her last respects. Malamang andun rin ako. I was in Baguio during the EDSA Revolution so it was relatively "peaceful" at that time.

Yes, Watson. You're a bit older than me. You're probably in high school already when the EDSA Revolution took place...

Hey Dodong, you know I first learn of President Aquino's death from your blog when your blog post flashed on my blogger dashboard of blogs I subscribe to. I was shocked and saddened, that I couldn't even bring myself to visit and leave a comment. I didn't even know she was sick. I felt like it was the end of an era, and I hope the Filipino people never forget her legacy.
