The King Size Bed
Monday, August 24, 2009
Yesterday, my wife and I went to the mall to buy for a new bed. We we're supposed to go to SM Megamall but thinking that its car park areas may be full again (as SM Megamall is noted to be always in full parking during weekends), we thought of going to Robinson's Galleria instead. But as we were approaching the highway, we noticed traffic building up ahead of us. It was our first time to go out on a Sunday and it was exactly a week since we moved here. We didn't know the new place we are now living is still in traffic gridlock even on Sundays. We turned around and ended up in Ever Gotesco. Ever Gotesco is the nearest mall to where we presently live in Manggahan, Pasig City.
We proceeded to the department store, to the furniture area. The wife who was the most decisive to get a new bed, chose the king size one. It was very big and the most expensive among the displayed items. I just let my wife chose whatever she likes. After all, she's just rewarding herself for getting pregnant. My wife also loves bed and it's sad to think that after we started family, we just sleep on the floor with a double-size mattress. Sleeping on the floor was okay for her in the beginning but as she was getting pregnant, it was getting difficult and even painful for her to arise in the middle of the night when she would go to the toilet. That's why we agreed that it's time we should buy a bed.
After my wife paid the bills, two salesmen helped us to bring to boxed bed frame and the folded six inches thick foam mattress to the parking area. As it turned out, the box wouldn't fit at the cargo area of our Toyota Revo no matter what we did. I already started to perspire. It was already late for us to decide that the items we bought be delivered by the department store's delivery service since the items were already paid and out. It's good that one of the salesman suggested that we would hire a tricycle to carry the box of bed and the foam.

The pregnant wife inside the tricycle and her stuff on top of it.
For 130 pesos, we were able to negotiate a tricycle to have our cargoes delivered to our house. There were two long beams on a separate box that can't be loaded on top of the tricycle. So the tricycle driver asked that one of us would accompany him on the tricycle to hold the boxed beams that was placed in between the motor and the side car. I asked Jovy to transfer to the tricycle to help the tricycle driver while I drive the car ahead of them to serve as guide going to our house. It was in fact only five minutes drive from Ever Gotesco to our new home. Finally when we got home and the cargoes were unloaded, Jovy gave the tricycle driver 150 pesos, that included a 20 pesos extra for the 130 pesos fare which was agreed earlier. The service was very well rendered.
I assembled the bed right away and the pregnant wife was very much delighted when it was done!

@ Mike: Yes, we already buy a king size bed and this is what the story is all about. See the second photo...
@ Deo: Thanx, indeed it's a nice bed but very expensive :(
@ Meryl: Thanx... :)
@ anonymous: I apologize for the confusion I've caused. The car is own by the company I'm working. I don't use it to go to work everyday. I just borrow it when I'd like to use it for something... -

That tricycle is a real workhorse! I'm glad it is motorized and not pedal-powered. -

ok ...looks like my comment didn't go thru, here goes again.
It must have been a relief for Jovy to get up from a king size bed. getting up from a mattress on the floor is hard on everybody.
Dodong, you are so nice to your wife, keep it up! ;)
