Just Another Swapping Incident

Our assistant manager borrowed my umbrella this afternoon when he went to the bank. He put the umbrella to the rack provided outside the bank entrance. After the transaction and he's about to get the umbrella from the rack, he could no longer find it out. Instead, a lone umbrella was left in the rack which is far different from the looks of my umbrella. He waited for a while but the bank is already closing and there was no longer any client inside. He and the security concluded that the umbrella was accidentally swapped with another one. What happened next is he took the wrong umbrella with him back to the office.

The swapped umbrella is far inferior than mine. It is also telescopic but small. The tube is powder-coated but already rusty. Most of the parts like the open cap, runner and the tip cup are composed of plastic. It has single ribs and stretchers. The top notch and the runner with stretchers are tied with a nylon thread. It's light blue color will make me effeminate using it. It has a "Hershey" brand printed on top of it.

In contrast, mine is heavier but sturdier and bigger, characteristics common to a golf umbrella, so I don't need to mention that it is also telescopic. The tube, center ball, springs, runner, tip cup and most parts are all brass and chromed. It has double ribs and stretchers. The top notch and runner with stretchers are tied with steel wires. My umbrella has a dark blue color with a bold "Tri-Isys Internet" printed in yellow color on the top.

I was using such umbrella for more than five years already and taken much care of it. It survived a lot of typhoons most significantly the Bagyong Milenyo in September 2006 where my wife (then a mere friend) and friend Mae Ann used it to go home when SM Megamall (where they worked in one of the tenant shop there) announced an early closure due to the typhoon's getting stronger and stronger. (Hey, Mae Ann! Do you still remember those times?)

Well, the umbrella with such sentimental value attached is nowhere to be found. Life has to move on. "Don't cry over a spilled milk." That's what elders are saying. I'd rather buy another golf umbrella - a dark-colored one that won't make me less masculine. Tomorrow, I'll buy a new one.

I need to get a good night sleep...

Thanx, Lawstude. I went to SM Fairview, SM North, and SM Megamall to find a new golf umbrella but cannot find one that would pass to my taste... Hmmmnn... Hope to find one very soon :)

I think the unknown guy intentionally swapped it because your umbrella is of a better quality. Hehe. But your boss should have at least offered to get you a new one. Bad borrower.
