The MIP EB at TriNoma

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

Shutter Speed: 8 sec / F-stop: f/10.0 / ISO Setting: 400 / focal length: 33mm / flash: off / mount: tripod

The MIP Eyeball materialized upon the invitation of Manong Ken, the Admin of My Islands Philippines, who visited the country for a few days this April. The event took place last April 10. The choice for the venue is Gerry's Grill located at  the new TriNoma mall in EDSA - North Avenue, Quezon City.

I brought my girlfriend Jovy with me. As first-timers of the said mall, my girlfriend and I find it difficult to navigate at the parking area and even inside the mall. After few inquiries from security guards, we finally arrived at the venue.

At the meeting place, we met Admin Ken, Master Rey Nocum, MJ, and Ronald Ibay. Denz Dayao and Jhun Vibar were just on their way yet and were caught in heavy traffic. Master Rey Nocum showed as copies of Permit to Shoot that he got from the mall management office.

There were two things we learned during the dinner time. First, Manong Ken suggested that MIP should look for a place or venue where we can hold a photo exhibit. The idea was being agreed by the majority. Second, Sir Rey Nocum, the macro master and MIP moderator, demonstrated to us a technique of taking macro photos using a phonecam. Overall, the meeting was quite a learning experience.

Manong Ken, who had to catch up for another schedule, already left when Jhun Vibar and Denz Dayao arrived. Anyhow, using the permit that Master Rey Nocum gave to us, we were able to roam around the upper portion of the mall and take photos without any guard accosting us. Jovy and I parted from the group and ventured by ourselves what was like an oasis on top of the mall. It was my first time there and I was mesmerized as to how beautifully landscaped the place is. Seeing the beautiful garden in there, you wouldn't think you're on top of the mall. The following photos will show you how TriNoma garden looks like in the night time.

Intramuros on Easter Sunday

Saturday, April 26, 2008

F ollowing an abrupt photoshoot in La Mesa Eco Park during Holy Thursday, I went out for another photoshoot in Intramuros on Easter Sunday. While I was still using the same Toyota FJ Cruiser that took us to La Mesa Eco Park, what make this photoshoot different from the former is that Jovy, her sister Malou and friend Grace are not with me. I was alone at this time. Driving to Intramuros barely just before sundown, I was still able to capture considerable number of photos that I enjoyed sorting out later. There was fun even doing the photoshoot alone.

I originally intended to shoot Intramuros with a black and white film but my order of Neopan films in Fujifilm SM Megamall branch didn't arrive yet. So, I was left with no choice other than shooting in digital and post-processed the photos later to B&W. These are a few of the photos down there and I hope you would enjoy viewing these much as I enjoy taking these photos...

What's Up

  1. Today - we just finished an MIP Photoshoot at the La Mesa Eco Park. I'll post photos in here and at the MIP site once I get the photos sorted.
  2. Yesterday - I escorted Japanese exchange students to Tagaytay (April 25) and I was taking tons of photos to those Tagaytay spots we had visited. Again, another tedious job of sorting out those digital photos before it can be seen in this site and at My Islands Philippines.
  3. I just got my ordered Neopan films at Fujifilm in SM Megamall. I'll be taking black and white photos once in a while and will be posting such photos here once I could used up the 36 shots of the film.
  4. Account and photos of MIP eyeball at TriNoma last April 10 is on it's way and is sure to be the very next feature after this post.

Software Issues II

Tuesday, April 22, 2008

software installations

This article is a sequel of the first one entitled Software Issues: I'm Now 50% Guilt-Free.

Graphics Software

In my quest for free and uncompromised softwares, I have just installed a free graphics software that I intend to replace my Adobe Photoshop CS2. My friend Rob of spirithands.net recommended me two softwares that can be downloaded and used for free, i.e. GIMP and Paint.net. While I successfully installed GIMP into my system, I didn't install the later that requires at least Windows XP and .NET Framework 2.0. My system runs on Windows 2000.

I will start using GIMP in editing the photos and if I find it satisfying according to my own standard, I will resign from Adobe Photoshop (that's until I can earn enough fortune to pay for Adobe Photoshop's licensing).

Media Player

I'm also downgrading my Winamp 5  to Winamp 2.80 full edition. I'm running the latest version of this media player for more than a year but realized I am not really using its advance features. Furthermore, I am missing the simplicity of the old version of Winamp. And to compensate the old version's limitation, I have downloaded third-party plugins so Winamp 2.8 should work according to my requirements. Some of the plugins that I had downloaded thus far are the following: Tara's Real Audio Input Plugin 1.0.3b (for Winamp); Winamp PowerPlayer II 2.40d; and AC3File 0.5b wherein the first plugin is to be used for Winamp to play Real Audio files, the second plugin for Winamp to play videos in different file format, and the third for Winamp to play AC3 music files.

The Windows 2000 Control Panel Problem

In the process of removing some programs I no longer need in my system, I just found out that the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel didn't work. I made a quick search over the Internet and found one solution that proved to be working. For reference, I'm giving you the link: http://windowsitpro.com/articles/print.cfm?articleid=38595.

The instruction are as follows:

  1. Start a command session by going to Start, Run and typing
    cmd
  2. Enter each of the following commands (click OK to each confirmation that appears):
    regsvr32 mshtml.dll
    regsvr32 shdocvw.dll -i
    regsvr32 shell32.dll -i
  3. Close the command session by typing
    exit

The solution perfectly solved my dilemma and I was able to uninstall the softwares I didn't want anymore.

In ending up this article, I would like to list here a few links to the softwares I mentioned above:

  • GIMP (direct download)
  • Paint.net (direct download)
  • Winamp 2.80
  • Winamp plugin: Tara's Real Audio Input Plugin 1.0.3b (for Winamp)
  • Winamp plugin: Winamp PowerPlayer II 2.40d
  • Winamp plugin: AC3File 0.5b

    The Diosdado Macapagal International Airport

    Monday, April 21, 2008

I 'd been a bit busy these few days that passed that I couldn't update my blog nor I can visit friends' blogs as well. In the article Upcoming Posts for the Month of April, I promised to post batches of photos for this month, that I'm still working up until this point. Meanwhile, please enjoy my photos of the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport located in Clark Field, Pampanga. This was one of my destination when I signed out from blogging last April 11.
