Of Cars and Jeepneys
Friday, March 14, 2008
I had just found this series of vintage car and a jeepney photos in my digital archive. Then, I was not happy with the result because of the severe overexposure - typical to photographs taken using a VGA phonecam. Photos were taken when the vintage cars were on exhibit at the Quezon City Hall last January 9, 2006. The photo of the jeepney was taken later of the same day in Brgy. Pag-asa, Quezon City.
Manuel L. Quezon Presidential Car

1937 Chrysler Airflow Limousine was the official car of Commonwealth President Manuel L. Quezon. The car was restored for 18 months with Dan Irish, a noted vintage and a car collector having been responsible for having it back to its original state.
Gen. Douglas MacArthurs' Car

This 1937 Cabriolet, especially built by General Motors of America for Pres. Manuel L. Quezon, arrived in the Philippines on November 4, 1937. In 1938, it was turned over to Gen. Douglas MacArthur who used it all throughout his tour of duty in the country.
Philippine Jeepney
Post-war Era to present

Jeepneys are the most popular means of public transportation in the Philippines. They were originally made from US military jeeps left over from World War II and are well known for their flamboyant decoration and crowded seating. They have also become a symbol of Philippine culture. More information about Jeepney in Wikipedia.
