Life & MIP: Life Is Always Beautiful
Saturday, January 13, 2007
You take good photos. Great seascapes are taken with amazement. Rainbow in the skies are photographed and pondered upon. Mountain views of Tanay are explored with awe. Mall of Asia sunsets photographed in creative manner and then appreciated. It's a wonderful world according to Jennie Dy.
Back to reality - this is still not an ideal place to live. It is still an imperfect world a lot of people love to hate. Just across the street or just over the corner, life and death seemed to hang in precarious balance. When Kuya Rey Nocum texted me yesterday at 11am the sudden death of JL Bernardo whom we know in MIP as MANLALAKBAY, the bad news made me very shocked. According to the report, MANLALAKBAY was robbed just near his house. Nothing can justify the freak accident that cost his life. Judging from his works and pastime that can be seen in his website (http://bubuekak.multiply.com), he is a peace-loving person. This trait is manifested by his love of nature, indulging himself to mountaineering and nature photography. His untimely death is just too unfair. May his soul rests well in peace.
It's a tough life out there. No matter what you do, life sometimes seemed to be uncooperative. My PLDT DSL could hardly move forward after the devastating earthquake that rocked Taiwan last December 26 had destroyed all the international underground fiber optics cable. As a result, I can't access my Flickr, Yahoo Mail, private email, Gmail, Ringo, Multiply to name a few. Blogger and MIP sites can only be accessed in the middle of the night or early in the morning. To add insult to injury, I can access the whole day round my Friendster account that is not even useful to my personal whim.
Last Tuesday night, our internet connection with PLDT was disconnected so we were out for business these few days that passed. It's a blessing in disguise though so I could attend with the MIP eyeball with Manong Ken, the MIP guru. Had the internet connection prevailed, I couldn't attend the eyeball.
Earlier yesterday, Jennie Dy called me up to confirm my attendance to the meeting. Since I wasn't able to browse the internet the past few days as a result of disconnection, I didn't know about the details of the meeting. She relayed to me every details of it. I am grateful of what she did. If Jennie Dy would have been my girlfriend, she is sure to care me just more than that. Yet, she is always a superwoman here in my heart.
At the final moment, Jovy didn't allow me to attend the MIP meeting after learning what had happened to MANLALAKBAY. From the very beginning, she is always very fearful about my late night trips. She commutes daily SM Megamall and Valenzuela City to and fro and heard a lot of news stories about aircon bus robberies. That always makes her worry so much about me. And now that those dreaded things come to life among the MIP circle, she said a big NO for me.
It took me a while into persuading her for me to go to the MIP meeting. She also wished Maldita should come with me so it will be safer to travel (Maldita as my protector?). Maldita was no longer around when I arrived in Megamall so I didn't have much choice. Well, finally before leaving, she told me to drink a few bottles of beer at the meeting so I could fully socialize with the whole MIP. So, that's what I did later. And that was my first taste of beer after I determine myself to stop drinking 16 years ago. As you see it, the MIP meeting yesterday was that particularly significant in me. And when Tito Andy (Andy Anderson) will visit the country, we can talk MIP things over a few bottles of San Miguel beer (and I surmise he would prefer pale pilsen). Yippeee! Francis, what brand do you prefer? Carlsberg?
Tito Tom, what about a few bottles of beer when I get there in your place? Don't take me seriously about the beer, I'm just kidding :-)
While I was inside the taxi being stuck in traffic I received a text message from Jovy asking me to say her "Hi'' for Jennie Dy. I did no longer remember if I ever did it or not.
When I arrived at the scene, all the regular MIPers based in Manila were present except for the MIP chief evangelist, Dennis Villegas. I was glad Ms. Belle attended the eyeball at nasisilayan ko na naman ang beauty niya. I missed her during the MIP X'mas Party.
Shortly before Manong Ken with friends, nephews and nieces arrived, present were (in no particular order): Doc Gerry; Kuya Rey Nocum; Denz Dayao; Albert; MJ; Jhun Vibar; Ms. Belle; and of course, the MIP muse Jennie Dy. (Didn't I mention all?) I wonder why Oskie didn't arrive last night. The presence of Ms. Belle, anyway, was a total relief. But of course, you wouldn't want to miss the antics of Dennis Villegas which is quite unique. Besides, he didn't meet yet with Manong Ken in person.
The venue of the meeting is called Pier 1, located at Fort Strip in the Fort, Global City. When Manong Ken arrived together with his guests, plenty of foods followed. It was a lavish handaan, I should say. A few of the topics I can recall being tackled (it was opened up by Manong Ken) was about making profit with stock photos. Everyone supported the idea though there was no formalization yet. Personally, I thought that's the coolest thing to happen for a photography enthusiast like me - selling photos online.
Manong Ken also brought photography books for us to see written by one of his photography mentor, Bryan Peterson. While others were engaged in talking, we found ourselves skimming those books. Books were later taken by Jennie Dy and Ms. Belle as borrowers. Ladies first intrinsically.
I wished the event is a Pyro Olympic photoshoot. But I know the traffic situation is overwhelming. By that time, we felt comfortable at Pier 1. There were lots of foods and San Mig Light anyway.
We finished our meeting with Manong Ken and guests leaving ahead of us. The rest decided for a coffee break in a nearest coffee shop. Along the way, Jhun Vibar talked about MIP badge and T-shirts for MIP members. He suggested that to Kuya Rey. I also suggested for privilege email address to MIP members. Wouldn't it be cool to have an email address like jhun.vibar@myislandsphilippines.net? Google apps can make this possible.
At the coffee shop, I ordered Espresso so I would stay awake the whole night. I needed to keep my adrenalin rush pumping as I still have lots of things to do once I get to our house.
Jovy was checking me every now and then asking how I am doing. I was okay, anyway. I hitched ride Kuya Rey who dropped me at Boni Ave. EDSA.
Back to where I stay, I supposed to be in bed but I was still wide awake. I needed to review my final presentation at the language school the next morning. While it was the Espresso coffee that kept me awake, I was still high with intoxication due to the joy and happiness I had experienced meeting with the people who share the same passion and interest with me. Everytime there is MIP meeting, that will always be worthwhile and special to me. This is life is all about. This is MIP.
