December 16, 2004

I was on a voluntary mission with Service for Peace, Philippines, when, as part of the activity, we have to experience train ride with the PNR (the Philippines' oldest passenger locomotive, but in order for us to reach the nearest train station, we have to take a ride with passenger trolley*.

An approaching PNR train.

* a wooden cart with ball bearings fitted to the railings

Mga batang riles (railway children) gathered around foreigners.

This is what's inside of a PNR train.

Yes, I saw that when I passed by PUP Sta. Mesa last week. Ang linis-linis na nga paligid and new and "high-tech" train station are presently constructed. Can't hardly wait to see it done...

    I don't have any idea...

By the way, these people being uprooted from the tracks are not simple populace but professional squatters.
